Dear Troop 54,
Hello! I am wondering if you could help me. I work with international students, and I am looking for a family that would open their home to a student from Switzerland, Flavia, who is coming to America to study in a local high school. Flavia wants to be a part of her American family and to learn more about the American way of life while sharing her own customs and culture from Switzerland.
I'm writing because Flavia is especially active with boy scouts in her area. She is in charge of the nine year olds in her town, and every weekend she plans activities for them. She really enjoys her time with the boys in her group, and I know she would love to live in a family that participates in scouts. I think that any family that hosts her would really have a great experience with international youth exchange.
STS Foundation is a not-for-profit student exchange program that is devoted to creating quality international experiences for students who are between the ages of 15 and 18. Our students come from countries around the world and want to learn more about American customs and culture by living with host families for one year.
Families provide room and board to students, and are eligible to receive a deduction on their federal taxes. Flavia will bring her own health insurance and spending money for things like school supplies, entertainment, clothing, sporting equipment, etc. She is committed to becoming part of her American family. STS Foundation will take care of school acceptance.
I would love it if you could forward information about our search for Flavia's host family to the families, scouts and scoutmasters involved in troop 54. I hope that we can work with some of the caring families from your troop. If you know of someone that we could contact regarding Flavia, we would appreciate it. We would love it if anything could be forwarded or talked about to families at any scout meetings.
I hope that we can work together to create more international understanding between America and countries around the United States by bringing families and international teens together for academic programs!
