Sign up for very cool leader training you have never seen before!
Been there! Done that! Got the T-shirt! Got the coffee mug! Got the hat!
NOT this time! You haven't been to this one, yet.
This is a brand new training program that is designed just for YOU, the experienced, trained leader. With the help of the Buffalo National River Park Service staff, the Ozark District is hosting, at Camp ORR, (where else could it be?) an ADVANCED LEADER TRAINING session. The new National Park Superintendent offered the services of his staff to help with our program and so we are going to put them to work.
The ALT program will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005 in conjunction with a Boy Scout Introduction to Outdoor Leader Training (Rockbadge) and Outdoor Webelos Leader Training (OWL). The Park Service is going to provide the following sessions:
Archeology and history of the Buffalo River area - Instructor: Dr. Cavin Clark
He will tell us more about the types of things we can find in the area and what to do and not do regarding things we find during activities with youth.
Canoe Rescue Techniques - Instructor: Ranger from Steel Creek or Hasty
Instruction in how to demonstrate and teach recommended canoe rescue and when and when not to use them.
Cave Exploration - Instructor: Chuck Bitting
The original description I got was just "WAY COOL!". He will do a great job telling us about the opportunities in the area, and how to do them safely.
These will be 1 hour sessions. The plan is to start at 9:00 am and run the sessions until 12:00 then repeat each of them starting at 1:00pm until 4:00.
The fee for this event is $10.00 per adult. That includes a meal. Since the sessions are going to be repeated, you have three choices. The price for each of the three choices is the same, $10.00.
1.. You can be there at 9:00 and stay for lunch.
2.. You can show up at 1:00 and stay for dinner. (Following dinner will be an awesome campfire put on by the trainees and staff with a Wood Badge Bead presentation.)
3.. You can come and help staff the training effort (contact Ellen Vaught).
Of course, camping at Camp Orr will be possible if desired. Camp site assignment will be made to not interfere with the other training programs. So, grab a new scouter that has not been to an Outdoor training session and bring them to Camp Orr! They will get the basic outdoor training that they need and YOU can enjoy this wonderful program put on by our new friends at BNR. The rumor has it that the Ozark training staff always has a lot of fun. Lets check it out!
Please make a reservation with the office in Fort Smith. Sign up deadline is Thurs. Sept. 15 if you expect us to have any food left for you and if you plan to camp. If you have any questions, call John Levy at 870-715-8360 or email jlevy at alltel.net.
