Forestry and wildlife field day offered near Fayetteville

A forestry and wildlife field day will be held on Saturday, October 29, from
8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the University of Arkansas Pauline Whitaker Animal
Science Center and Savoy Forest, near Fayetteville.

Field stops will cover private lands programs, quail management, field
grading hardwood trees, tree measurements, oak regeneration with fire and
herbicides, and improving wildlife habitat with fire. Indoor presentations
will include the private landowner's perspective, incentive programs and
wetlands, a red oak borer update, and best management practices for water
quality. Also scheduled is a prescribed burning demonstration.

 "This workshop is an excellent opportunity for timberland owners to
increase
their knowledge and interact with a variety of leading forestry
professionals," said Mary Ann Halsey, forestry education director for the
Arkansas Forestry Association Education Foundation.

 The registration fee is $5 per person, which includes handouts, door prizes
